How can I prevent my dogs from tearing up my new pond liner?

My pond used to have a fence around it but I wanted to take it down so that it was more accessible. The dogs decided they like to get in and in doing so they knocked rocks in which punctured the old liner which was 5+ years old. I just put a new one down, should I be more careful with this one or is it less likely to be punctured since it is new?
