How can I keep street cats from my balcony?

cats
Ran C asked:

I live in a city. My house is an apartment building, eight floors high, I live on the first floor. We plan adding a balcony to each and every one of the building’s apartment. Since our place is on the first floor, we would like to find a way to block street cats from entering our balcony.
How can it be done?

There many things you can buy from a pet store. There is a spray you can spray on areas that cats don’t like the smell, but since we don’t have a heightened sense of smell as they do, we can’t smell it. We use this on our furniture to keep the cats off and stop them from clawing at it. Also make sure you don’t keep anything that cats might find to eat on the balcony.

I had cats roaming around my deck after birds and critters until I put a few jumbo rat traps around with large panels attached to the trip.

DO NOT put out poison. It’s against the law and very inhumane. Spray them in the face with water a few times they won’t be back they **** it.

Coffee grinds; cats **** them. You could also try black pepper. These are both poison free and animal/earth friendly.

Also, you can buy some trellis material at Home Depot and put that around your balcony.
